Agricultural Empowerment

Starting in 2006, millions of people in northern Uganda were freed from fifteen years of living in refugee camps to return to re-settle their home areas.  The result?  Countless villages and families with land but no knowledge of sound farming practices.

SOM Uganda’s Koro Farm has played (and continues to play) an instrumental part in helping people learn about strong farming practices. We seek to help people move past farming simply for subsistence, and toward farming as a commercial venture. From piggeries and keeping chickens and cows to growing field crops, we help!

The Koro farm is a working farm, the proceeds of which provide some sustainability funding for the various Koro progams. Agriculture is woven into the women’s empowerment programs as well. We do an annual agriculture conference to continually educate farmers. We store farmers’ crops so they can get a higher price later.
