A way out of poverty

Many of the young people our leaders and coaches work with in Uganda and Kenya are not in a position to continue their formal education through high school or college. Vocational training can provide a way out of poverty when formal education is no longer an option.

The Sports Outreach Polytechnic Institute in Northern Uganda trains young mothers who can no longer go to school in sewing/tailoring, and hair care is planned for the future.

Basic computer skills are more and more sought-after each year in the places we serve. They can qualify someone for any number of jobs.  We have both current and planned programs in Kenya and Uganda.

Currently under construction is a building at the Katwe Chess Center that will be the home to a new vocational school focused on computer programming skills and custom leatherwork.

Our hope?  To find groups of people who catch the vision for giving women who have survived abuse and children from the slums a trade skill that will transform their lives!

280 people benefitted from our vocational programs in 2023.
