our work
Almost a generation after the terror wrought by Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army, the needs in Acholi land north of the Nile are still so great…
Our ministry in Northern Uganda started in 2004, when a gifted Ugandan athlete and his family left the relative safety of Kampala to travel north as a missionary in the midst of a terrorist war. Through visionary leadership it has grown into a multi-faceted ministry that addresses, and seeks to alleviate, a variety of important poverty challenges unique to the area.
SOM Uganda’s ministry outreach is centered around the Koro Farm, a 40-acre working farm and ministry center. Work has expanded to several nearby villages in the past few years.
Our work includes:
Core Sports Ministry
Four preschools serving over 500 children
Education assistance for over 200 additional children in the area
Women’s empowerment work Christine’s House, Nicki’s Village and Sports Outreach Polytechnic School
Guest Houses that contribute to long-term sustainability
Ongoing agriculture projects – pigs, dairy cows and many crops - for both demonstration and income generation
We hope to soon have an operational medical clinic
