Coach Aubreys Story

Each of our Sports Outreach coaches, both domestically and internationally, have their own story and passions. Their stories and passions along with the use of sports ministry give them the ability to disciple and impact lives that may be living a similar story to theirs. Our newest Coach, Aubrey, is doing just that. She shared with us how becoming a coach with Sports Outreach is an answer to prayer, that now allows her to influence and speak truth to women who are in a position she was once in. Coach Aubrey is bringing hope to her community by using the story God has written for her to help others. Read below her own words.

I am so thankful for all of the training and support I have received from all of the Sports Outreach team/family. I have only just started and have already learned so much, but I also know I will always have more to learn! It excites me to know that I am in a position where I will constantly be able to gain knowledge and grow. I believe that God doesn't want us to be complacent. My Pastor has said before that there is a reason that God chose the disciples He had because they aren't bible scholars, they are just normal people. I used to doubt my own purpose and ability to share the gospel. I am so thankful to now be in a position that challenges me. It has helped me to see that I am unable to live out my purpose without consistently relying on Jesus to equip me.

While at our ministry sites, I am now able to reflect and remember where I once was in life. Prior to this position, I was an Office Assistant in a very negative environment. I once was also in a residential program where I received counseling, biblical teachings and healing through my recovery from addiction and domestic violence. I had been praying for years for an opportunity in Ministry so that I could use my testimony to point people back to Jesus. Through a simple conversation with Coach Jessie, God opened a door with Sports Outreach that I didn't even know to pray for. I had limited myself and thought that I would not be qualified enough for a position as a Coach but after a lot of prayer, I felt a peace like never before and was certain that this door was opened by God. I see now why God allowed me to walk through certain trials.

One thing that Jessie told me, that I still remind myself of daily, is "God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called." I wanted to share this because every Tuesday, I have the blessing of going to the Doves Nest to spend time with women who are recovering from addiction. It is an honor to work out with the women at Doves Nest every week because sometimes I look at them and I see the girl I was a few years ago. I am so proud of these women for being strong and seeking the help they are in need of because I remember how hard it was to turn from my fleshly desires and chase after God with my whole heart. I am inspired by them and I can't wait for the moment I can share with them about my testimony to give them some hope to see that I know exactly what they're going through. God can use each of them to do something like what He has called me to do in regard to using their story to help other hurting women to give God all of the glory in their recovery.
