Sarah - an Emerging Leader in Kenya

Sarah is a young lady who is very involved with Sports Outreach Programme Kenya. Recently she was nominated as a Youth Ambassador in Nairobi by CampaignFIA, a non-profit organization based in South Africa. CampaignFIA was started because of a belief that financial literacy education introduced in early childhood can play a significant role in disrupting the cycle of poverty.  Currently financial literacy is not a part of the basic education system in most African countries.

Sarah was one of the pioneer students in the chess project started in 2015 in Nairobi’s Mukuru slum.  She accepted Christ as her Savior that year. Her chess game improved quickly, and in 2016 she participated in tournaments and won several awards. In 2017 and 2018 she won national chess championships in her age bracket. She was to represent Kenya in continental and even global tournaments in places such as Egypt and China, but she was unable to travel due to lack of travel documents. Finally, last year she represented Kenya in the African Youth Chess Championship in Windhoek, Namibia after the government intervened and handed her a passport.

Sarah’s life is being changed because of her involvement with Sports Outreach. She has leadership gifts and the opportunity to grow them.
