Coach Julius grew up with the first group of “pioneers” who started playing chess with Robert Katende in 2004. He now plays a key part in working with kids and also “coaching coaches”. He also started a unique chess program in partnership with the Kampala School for the Disabled. There, he coaches “differently-abled” children and young adults. Recently, three of boys and one girl from this group were chosen to be on the Ugandan National Team for the online FIDE World Chess Olympiad for the disabled.

Sports, and chess in particular, provide an opportunity to cross so many societal boundaries, sharing both the game and the Gospel!
