Bernard is involved in a number of Sports Outreach programs in Nairobi. His story below, in his own words, shows that he has a strong desire to help others. Please pray that he will continue to grow in his faith, and that his life would foster Gospel transformation in the lives of many others!

“My name is Bernard. I am the 1st born child in our family. My father and mother are loving and caring. I joined Sports Outreach in 2012 when I was in fourth grade. I appreciated the school that Sports Outreach had in Mukuru because the teachers were caring and handled us with love. The Bible studies on Saturdays were very good because they encouraged us to know the word of God and taught us how to pray.

My coaches have been an encouraging factor in my life. The activities that are carried out in the EmpowerMe Sponsorship Program have been of great help to me and all the kids who participate in these activities.

In April 2015, during one of the Bible studies, I gave my life to Christ. Since then, I have seen God’s miraculous hands in my life. In 2016, when I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam, I got three hundred seventy -seven marks. This enabled me to join my dream national high school called Lenana School. I am now in my final year and will sit for my National Exams in March 2021. I believe and trust God that I will score well and be able to join Nairobi University. My dream is to become a neurosurgeon.

Spiritually, I have been uplifted, and nowadays I do recognize God as my Personal Savior. During devotion time at school, I encourage my colleagues, while at home I always attend church service with my parents on Sundays. In addition, I am a good chess player and have represented both our school and SOM Chess Academy in different tournaments and won several awards. In vocational training, I am now computer literate after graduating from a computer class last year. I am the Pioneer of chess in our school, and I am determined to pass the knowledge to all my colleagues who are interested in learning the game. I have also learned the art of encouraging others through guiding and counseling to help them avoid depression in life.

I have come to realize that God loves me and that He has made me who I am today. I know that He has already prepared my future – Jeremiah 29:11. At school, I always encourage my colleagues on the importance of accepting Christ into their lives. God has predestined greater plans for our lives even before He formed us in our mother’s womb. God has truly changed my life and I am no longer the way I used to be. I am now a responsible child of God.

Thank you, Sports Outreach, for supporting my education. Thank you, my coaches, for walking along with me and modeling for me a great future in Christ. And thank you for investing in the lives of so many children from Mukuru and Kibera slums. God bless you.”
