Soccer Ministry has Started Again in Kenya!

All of our sports ministry programs in all the countries we work were shut down in March with the Covid pandemic. Thankfully, The soccer programs of Sports Outreach Programme Kenya in the Nairobi slums have started back. Kids, who weren’t in school, were out playing anyway, despite the lockdown, and local officials were fine with our coaches re-engaging with them to help “control the play”.

Coaches David and Daniel have not only been back around the ball with the kids. As they are with them, they regularly sensitize them to the realities of Covid. They have also been counseling them strongly not to join the many “harmful groups” that steal, sell drugs, or do other damaging things in the slums. The pressure from these groups is constant, and with no school in Kenya, kids have so much extra time on their hands.

One of the Sports Outreach SWIFT soccer teams participated in a local soccer tournament recently, the Embakasi Closed Tournament. THEY WON! And they received a new set of team jerseys for first place. This is a huge blessing and generates great excitement and esprit de corps for these kids.
